Well, three weeks of SCHOOL left of 2019! Isn't that wild? Time sure does fly by when you're learning tons and having fun!
I hope you had a fantastic break and are ready to rock these next three weeks until holiday break!
Here's what's happening this week:
We are in the midsts of our third math unit which is all about operations. This week we will be exploring scaled picture graphs and multiplication! Whoop!
How to help at home:
Please check out the Parent Letter for tips, vocabulary and ways to help at home. Click here.
Reading, Writing, Science and Social Studies...Oh my!
Yep. We're combining all of these subjects together with our thematic country study unit!
As you may remember, we have been studying about the grove snail population located in Europe. We are now going to zoom in to a specific European country to find out what life is like not only for the grove snails there, but for the people as well.
The country we are focusing on is Slovenia! Why Slovenia, you ask?
We chose Slovenia because this country is not as well known and has deep DEEP ties to Crested Butte.
We are going to learn about the culture, geography and history of Slovenia, and then create a map of the country as well as a digital report.
After break, we'll learn about life of a particular family who came to CB from Slovenia and what it was like when they first arrived here and how they helped shape our town and even our lives today. Pretty cool, huh?
How to help at home:
Ask questions about Slovenia! Check out some of our online resources via our Google Classroom with your child.
Also, maybe hit up the Crested Butte Museum over break or check out some Duane Vandenbusche books from the library to spark some conversations about the lives lived here in Crested Butte way before we got here. With the ever changing things happening here in our town, I think it's important to recognize and honor those who came before us and realize that the living here wasn't always as easy as it is now. Plus, it aligns with our social studies state standards!
Lastly, Secret Santa is approaching. We will be creating our "wish lists" this week and getting our assigned recipient on Friday. So, your child will have homework next week. The homework will be to create, prepare, and/or wrap a gift for their Secret Santa recipient for each day of the last week before break. So, they will need FIVE gifts to give. For the rules, please click here. Short of the long, no more than FIVE Dollars can be spent TOTAL, regifting stuffies or whatever is fine, and unlimited Melissa Moolah can be spent at the Class Store on gifts.
That's all for now, Folks!
Thank you for all that you do!
